Fuel price data and methodology

How Fuelconomy collects reported prices from official sources for 10 countries: coverage, country-specific schedules and limits of the data.

What this dataset is

Fuelconomy displays reported station quotes and calculated city/country aggregates. There is no crowd-sourced or user-submitted pricing. Coverage counts describe directory records, not necessarily stations with current prices.

Update frequency

The configured collection schedule is 01:30 UTC for France and Spain and 13:30 UTC for every country. Source publication timing is separate. A recent retrieval or page generation does not prove a recent price change. History may contain gaps.

How to cite these figures

Include the station, exact fuel grade, currency, quantity unit, service mode where known and displayed date. Compare matching products and units, and identify any currency conversion. State whether a figure is a station quote or an aggregate. Reuse conditions depend on the original provider.

Access

Reading prices requires no account, no payment and no API key. A machine-readable summary is published at https://fuelconomy.com/llms.txt and pricing at https://fuelconomy.com/pricing.md.

Use Fuelconomy in an AI assistant (MCP connector)

Fuelconomy runs a Model Context Protocol server at https://fuelconomy.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no sign-in, free) covering France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Andorra, Luxembourg, Denmark, Cyprus and Malta. In Claude: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, keep “No sign-in”. Read-only tools: get_country_fuel_prices, get_city_fuel_prices, compare_fuel_prices (difference per litre and on a 50-litre tank), find_cheaper_fuel_nearby (towns up to 80 km away, across borders). Answers carry the date of the prices and a link to the matching page. The server receives only the request parameters, never the conversation; see the Privacy Policy, section 3.5.
