FAQ

Quick answers to common questions about fuel prices and stations.

What is Fuelconomy?

Fuelconomy shows you the latest available fuel prices at stations around you. Compare prices, find cheaper options nearby, and plan refueling stops that make sense for your route – without the guesswork.

Do I need an account?

No. The map and station browser work without signing in. Creating an account unlocks Pro features like price alerts, route planning, and favorites.

Which countries can I use this in?

Fuelconomy works in countries where we have reliable station and price data. You'll see supported countries listed on the site. If your country isn't there yet, it means we don't have consistent coverage.

Why isn't my country supported?

We only add countries when we can guarantee consistent, up-to-date information. Not all regions have public data sources that meet our quality standards.

How often are prices updated?

Update frequency varies by country and data source. Most stations are updated regularly, but exact timing depends on when providers send us new information.

Why isn't a price always accurate?

Fuel prices can change between updates. A station might adjust pricing after our last update, or the source may publish the change later. Always check the "Last updated" timestamp and compare nearby stations if you need certainty.

What does "Last updated" mean?

It's the most recent time we received price information for that specific fuel type at that station. More recent timestamps are generally more reliable.

The price on the station sign looks different – why?

This usually happens for a few reasons: the station changed prices after our last update, you're comparing different fuel variants (premium vs. regular), or there's rounding. If the difference is significant, use the "Report wrong price" option so we can investigate.

Why do other apps show different prices?

Different services pull from different data sources and update on different schedules. Before deciding which price is more current, compare the fuel variant and check the "last updated" timestamp on each service.

How is "You save" calculated?

Savings estimates are based on the price difference between stations and a typical refuel amount. Think of it as a quick comparison tool, not an exact prediction – your actual savings will depend on how much fuel you buy.

Why don't I see all fuel types (LPG, AdBlue, etc.)?

Not every data source includes every fuel type. Available fuels differ by country and sometimes by individual station – we can only show what our sources provide.

A fuel type is listed but has no price – why?

The station might not have provided a current price for that fuel, or the latest update didn't include it. Try checking a different fuel type or browsing nearby stations.

Fuel names look different across countries – why?

Fuel labels vary by country and local conventions. For example, what's called "95" in some countries might be "Regular" or "E10" elsewhere. Use the fuel guide on country pages to match local names to what your vehicle needs.

How do I choose the right fuel for my vehicle?

Always follow your vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. If you're unsure, check the label on your fuel cap or look in your vehicle manual. Using the wrong fuel type may cause serious issues – when in doubt, double-check your manual.

Why are some stations not shown on the map?

We may hide stations that don't have a current price for your selected fuel, or where data is missing. Some stations may be unavailable in our sources until coverage improves.

Why do I see fewer stations after selecting a fuel type?

Not all stations report prices for every fuel type. When you filter by a specific fuel, we only show stations that have a valid, current price for your selection.

Why can't Fuelconomy detect my location?

Location access might be blocked by your browser settings or device permissions. Check your browser's location settings and allow access for Fuelconomy. If that doesn't work, you can choose a city manually instead.

Can I search by city instead of using location?

Yes. Use the "Choose City" option to set your area manually and browse stations there. This is helpful if location detection isn't working or you're planning ahead for a trip.

How does "Find fuel on route" work?

We calculate a route from your starting point to your destination, then highlight stations that are close to your path. Results are ranked by price and how far off-route they are, so you can save money without making major detours.

What does "Max detour" mean?

It's the maximum extra distance you're willing to travel off your main route to reach a station. Smaller detours mean quicker stops with minimal route changes. Larger detours might reveal cheaper options but add more travel time.

Why do I see fewer route results than expected?

We filter out stations with missing or outdated prices for your selected fuel type, so route suggestions stay reliable. If coverage is sparse in an area, you might see fewer options.

Does Fuelconomy replace my navigation app?

No. Fuelconomy helps you choose the best station for your route – the actual turn-by-turn navigation opens in your preferred maps app (Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc.).

Can I save a station for later?

Yes. Use the "Add to favorites" option on any station to save it. You can access your saved stations anytime from your account.

Why would I use folders in favorites?

Folders help you organize stations by purpose. For example, you might create folders for "Home area," "Work commute," "Road trips," or "Cheapest stations." This makes it easier to find the right station at the right time.

How do price alerts work?

Price alerts notify you when a station's price matches your chosen conditions (for example, when it drops below a certain amount). Alerts are based on the data updates we receive. Delivery timing depends on your notification settings and your email provider.

I didn't receive an alert – why not?

Common reasons include: no price update met your alert condition, the station data is outdated, or there was an email delivery issue. Check your spam folder, verify your alert settings in your account, and make sure your email address is correct.

I didn't receive the sign-in email – what should I do?

Check your spam and promotions folders first. Verify you entered the correct email address. If you still don't see it, try requesting a new sign-in link. Some email providers delay automated messages.

My sign-in link doesn't work – what now?

Sign-in links expire after a certain time and can only be used once. Request a new link from the account page and use it right away.

How do I set a default fuel type?

Go to your account settings and choose your default fuel type. This will be pre-selected on the map each time you visit. You can still change the fuel type anytime using the map filters.

What do I get with Pro?

Pro unlocks advanced tools: price history charts, enhanced route planning features, organized favorites with folders, and customizable price alerts. It's designed for people who refuel frequently and want to maximize savings.

How do trials and payments work?

Trial and payment details depend on the current product phase and may change when full billing goes live. Your account page always shows the current terms, trial length (if available), and pricing.

Can I cancel Pro anytime?

Yes. If you have an active Pro subscription, you can cancel it at any time through your account settings. You'll keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period.

How do I report a wrong price?

Use the "Report an issue" option on the Contact page. Include the station name (or link), city, fuel type, and the time you saw the incorrect price. A screenshot helps us verify and fix the issue faster.

How do I report a missing station or wrong details?

Send a message via the Contact form with the station location and describe what's missing or incorrect (wrong address, closed permanently, wrong brand, etc.). The more context you provide, the faster we can verify and update our data.

How can I contact you?

Use the Contact form on the site, or email the appropriate address shown on the Contact page. We have separate channels for general support, billing questions, and legal requests.
